Captain Cook's Landing Place + My Favorites
Captain Cook's Landing Place is situated on Botany Bay, between the Kurnell and La Perouse headlands. It is the site where Captain Cook and his crew on the Endeavour first met Aboriginals in 1770. The area has several walking tours that can be done, and at the Discovery Centre, visitors can learn about the site's history through displays. The Discovery Centre also has detailed maps for guests walking tours. Address: Captain Cook Drv, Kurnell | Sydney, NSW | 2231 [ Map ]
The Rocks + My Favorites
More than 200 years ago, Captain Arthur Phillip decided that Sydney Cove was the most suitable place to site the new penal colony. Parts of the original Rocks area are preserved including the historic Susannah Place and Cadman's Cottage, one of Sydney's oldest surviving buildings. Address: 80 George St | Sydney, NSW [ Map ]
Fort Denison + My Favorites
Fort Denison was designed in the style of a Martello Tower, as a defense tower. It's purpose was to defend Sydney against the possible attack of Russian warships. Fort Denison sustained a small amount of damage in May of 1942, as it was hit by an American cruiser that was trying to stop a Japanese submarine that had passed through the anti-submarine nets and entered the harbour. Nowadays, visitors can take in all the history of the island, some of which dates back to the 18th Century. Access to the area is provided by ferry, train and bus. Address: Sydney Harbour, The Rocks | Sydney, NSW | 2000 [ Map ]
Elizabeth Farm + My Favorites
Elizabeth Farm is considered to be the birthplace of the Australian Wool Industry. It was once the home of John and Elizabeth MacArthur, and is an excellent example of early colonial architecture. The home contains examples of items once owned by the MacArthur's, and is full of decorations and furnishing that were typical of an early 19th century home. There is a garden that visitors make look through as well, and it is full of early plantings from the time period. There is an onsite tearoom located here, and it serves lunches, snacks and teas. Address: 70 Alice St, Rosehill, | Sydney, NSW | 2142
Rose Siedler Historic House + My Favorites
Rose Siedler Historic House is an example of modern architecture that was created between 1948 and 1950. It has panoramic views of Ku-ring-gai National Park, and incorporates a minimal colour scheme, open planning, and time and labour saving devices that were once new to Australia. Special events are often held here, and the home is part of the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales. Address: 71 Clissold Road, Wahroonga | Sydney, NSW | 2076
